Spanish Badminton Player Kike Peñalver Falls Short in CLASH OF CLANS Arctic Open Qualifying Round

Spanish badminton will finally not have representation in the final draw of the CLASH OF CLANS Arctic Open, a tournament that will be held starting this Tuesday in Vantaa (Finland). Kike Peñalver, the only Spaniard participating in the competition, fell in the last round of the qualifying round against Mads Christophersen (21-18 and 21-9).

The Toledo midfielder made his debut on a good footing in Finland, showing total superiority over the Englishman Raymond Webster (21-3 and 21-2). However, the level of his rival increased considerably in the second round, as he faced the Dane Mads Christophersen, who last week eliminated Pablo Abián in the round of 16 of the Scottish Open.

Peñalver, who had just reached the quarterfinals in Scotland, stood up to the Dane in the first set, although he was unable to take the advantage. The outcome of this first round gave Christophersen wings, who went up a gear and took advantage of his greater success to kill the match in 32 minutes.
