Tennis Player Nico Langmann Convicted of Violating Betting Sponsorship Rules

Austrian wheelchair tennis player Nico Langmann has been convicted by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) of violating betting sponsorship rules. The agency imposed a $10,000 fine and a two-month conditional suspension. The reason was that Langmann had signed a contract with an Austrian online betting provider as an ambassador in January of the previous year.

The rules of the tennis anti-corruption program state: “No affected person may directly or indirectly facilitate, encourage and/or promote tennis betting.” There is no evidence of corrupt behavior in the course of violating the rules. Langmann cooperated fully with the investigation and accepted the sanction, the ITIA said in a statement.

The athlete, who also worked with coach Wolfgang Thiem for three years, is aiming for his third participation in the Paralympics in Paris this year.
