The war between Israel and Hamas, triggered on October 7 by the surprise attack by the Palestinian Islamist movement against Israeli territory, endangered the work of the US administration of Joe Biden in recent months to encourage a rapprochement between Israel and Saudi Arabia. .

At least 1,300 Israelis, mostly civilians, have been killed since that attack. In response, the Israeli army has relentlessly bombed the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, where some 1,900 Palestinians have been killed — most of them civilians, including 614 children — according to local authorities.

On Friday, thousands of Palestinians were fleeing the northern Strip, urged by Israel to do so, and Riyadh said it “categorically” rejected the evacuation of Gaza’s population and condemned the bombing of “defenseless civilians.”

After a visit to Israel and several countries in the region, American Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Saudi Arabia on Friday night.
