San Antonio Spurs Extend Devin Vassell’s Contract for 5 Years and $146 Million

Yesterday was definitely a very productive day in San Antonio! After their Media Day, the Spurs announced the extension of Devin Vassell for 5 years and 146 million!

And hop a little Woj Bomb to liven up the Media Day of the NBA franchises a little. Member of the 2020 Draft and therefore eligible for a contract extension since this summer, Devin Vassell has agreed with San Antonio to continue the adventure in Texas. The deal is XXL: $146 million over five years according to Adrian Wojnarowski ofESPN. This is A LOT for a player who is certainly on the rise but who still has steps to take to become a major player in the NBA. Vassell averaged 18.5 points (39% from distance), 3.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists last year before a knee injury spoiled the second part of his season.

The Spurs valued their young core and they did not hesitate to put the greenbacks on the table to prove it. After Keldon Johnson last year, it’s Devin Vassell’s turn to extend his tenure at Fort Alamo. This amount seems high today but it will be less if the player reaches the potential that he is promised. With the evolution of the salary cap and the ever more staggering amounts, this contract could seem like a good deal within a few seasons. Devin Vassell’s new deal will take effect from the 2024-25 season, after the last year of the rookie contract, he finds himself linked to Spurs until 2029.
