Rugby World Cup: Why Germans are not interested in rugby

It’s actually a miracle that Anton Segner exists. Segner is a German and professional rugby player, the country’s greatest talent. The 22-year-old could rave about his sport for hours. “You can legally tackle other people and run through them. That’s brilliant,” he says. “And there’s a position for every body type, for tall people, short people, slow people.”

But Anton Segner has not lived in Germany for some time. Because he wanted to become a professional, he went to New Zealand, the land of the legendary All Blacks. Even as a child, he danced the famous Haka, the Maori war dance that is supposed to intimidate the opponents of the New Zealand national team before games. He now plays for the Blues in Auckland, one of the best teams in the world. Because he has lived in New Zealand for more than five years, he is also expected to play for the All Blacks. Many people, including his teammates, believe he can do that.
