Rifda Irfanaluthfi Qualifies for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Making History for Indonesian Gymnastics

KOMPAS.com – Artistic gymnastics athlete Rifda Irfanaluthfi succeeded in securing a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics. Rifda also made history as the first gymnast in Indonesia to appear at the Olympics.

Rifda Irfanaluthfi secured a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics after appearing at the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, Monday (2/10/2023) evening local time.

Reporting from Kompas.id, Rifda received a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics through the host country reallocation route.

France, which will host the 2024 Summer Olympics, has received advance tickets through the women’s team.

Based on regulations, gymnasts who qualify for the Olympics are those who are ranked in the top 14 in the overall calculation.

The top 14 ranking does not include the 12 countries that have confirmed their gymnasts will qualify in the team event.

At the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, Rifda actually ranked 52nd.

However, after gymnasts from 12 countries were not counted and each country could only send one representative, Rifda’s ranking rose to 15th position.

Rifda finally qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics by getting a ticket allocation for France, which was already allocated tickets as the host.

Rifda Irfanaluthfi also made history as the first Indonesian gymnast to appear at the Olympics.

Not only that, Rifda also added to the list of Red and White athletes who have secured tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Previously, there were four Indonesian athletes who held tickets to Paris next year, namely Arif Dwi Pangestu (archery), Desak Made Rita Kusuma (rock climbing), and senior lifter Eko Yuli Irawan.

Meanwhile, the 2024 Olympics will be held in Paris, France, from July 26 to August 11 2024.
