“You know, I’m not good at all that…” says a resident before throwing a ball towards a basket.
The projectile falls a few centimeters from its target. No matter: around her, all the other residents encourage her. ” It’s not serious. We are here to help each other. »

Big smiles and lots of concentration

A little further away, another person of a certain age, and a young woman, side by side, ready to compete in the game of bowling.

Elsewhere still, a lady with an elegant scarf plays her bow, very concentrated.

And cries of joy: those launched by two teams installed on either side of a net, throwing a balloon back and forth…

Funny scene, which we witness on this first Wednesday in October, at the Ehpad (accommodation establishment for dependent elderly people) in Saint-Riquier (Somme), in other words the retirement home.

The establishment’s social service organized its Olympics that day: a day of adapted sports meetings, to which all health establishments were invited.

Mixed teams for real mixing

The residents of the nursing home were there of course, but also those of the Foyer Robert Page in Abbeville, the Maison pour Tous and the department’s services were also there.

And if young people mingled with a largely older audience, it was because the IME (medical-educational institute) of Abbeville was also represented.

We wanted to set up mixed teams. There are residents of nursing homes, young people from IME… All the audiences are mixed, from all establishments. It is also an opportunity to create encounters between different audiences.

These Olympics were organized as part of Blue Week, a national week intended to promote the place of seniors in social life.

Around 80 people took part at the Saint-Riquier nursing home.
