Work finally starts, with a month’s delay, at ‘Zengarini’. The steps that were already lame thirty years ago are being renovated, adding to its profile (and more generally to that of the entire Marconi circuit) a multifunctional structure for indoor athletics. “From Monday 16 October the entire area will therefore be closed off – states the councilor for public works Barbara Brunori – and the use of the athletics track and the side track will be allowed exclusively to authorized parties. Work will start on the straight line, affecting the lateral area where today the discipline of archery was carried out”. The first construction area will be that of the grandstand where the entire internal part such as changing rooms, toilets and warehouses will be dismantled. Then we will intervene on the external parts that make the structure unusable, and then focus on energy efficiency, thermal insulation and fixtures to be able to accommodate other sports disciplines inside. From December the works will instead concern the replacement of the synthetic surface of the circular track while from November (also with another month later than announced) the works on the covered straight will also start. Inconveniences for users of the Marconi circuit? “From 16 October 2023 to 31 December 2024 – explains councilor Brunori -, only when the companies in charge have construction needs, will the section of the “E.Marconi” cycling circuit surrounding the athletics sports facility be closed “A.Zengarini”. The times of possible interdiction are: from Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 16:00 and on Saturday from 8:00 to 14:00; without prejudice to exceptional construction site needs which may determine an expansion of the indicated time slot. After the redevelopment, our facility will become a point of reference for national and international competitions, also because in Italy there are no other facilities with these characteristics and in Europe there are few”. A structure of 2 thousand square meters for an investment of 3 million and 200 thousand euros, deriving from the 2.5 million funds obtained with the P nrr “Sport and Social Inclusion” tender promoted by the government and the addition of another 800 thousand euros from the municipal budget . In the archery area, the new athletics facility will be built, capable of containing a 60-metre long straight plus deceleration (106 meters in total length) with six lanes for sprinters. Next to it there will also be space for the long jump, one for the high jump and another for the pole jump.
