A plaque in tribute to Remo Zaramella, who died on March 5 at the age of 88, was unveiled on Saturday October 7 in Saint-Pardoux-la-Rivière. The gym now officially bears his name.

In front of around fifty people (1), Sylvie Gouraud, the mayor, recounted the numerous services provided by the man who was the “Sud Ouest” correspondent for the canton of Nontron for more than thirty years.

Born in 1935 in Belgium to a family originally from Italy, Remo Zaramella arrived in Dordogne during his childhood. After training in agriculture, he took over his parents’ farm. Naturalized in 1957, he joined the marines and served in the commandos in Algeria. His military career has been distinguished on several occasions.

Judo, cycling, weightlifting

It was in 1961 that the Spardocien entered the national gendarmerie, to have a career there until 1984. Married to Maguy Colas with whom he had five children _ Bertrand, Didier, Isabelle, Florence and Murielle _ he practiced several sporting disciplines: judo, cycling, weightlifting and shooting. He is at the origin of numerous sports clubs in Ribéracois and Nontronnais, including the Pleine forme spardocien club, the Judo Club Dronnais and the Haltéro-Sports Loisirs Périgord-Limousin, whose weight room was set up in an outbuilding from his home, at a place called Brin in Saint-Pardoux-la-Rivière.

Throughout his sporting career, this former soldier obtained several diplomas and recognition titles as testimony to his dedication and the Youth and Sports gold medal.
