Racist insults to Udogie on the web, Tottenham ‘we are disgusted’ – Football

Italian defender Destiny Udogie, signed in the summer by Tottenham, was made the subject of racist insults on the web after Spurs’ victory over Liverpool. At the end of the match, the former Udinese defender – born twenty years ago in Verona – had posted a photograph of himself in action on his Instagram channel. This was enough to arouse the angry reaction of numerous self-styled Liverpool fans who commented on the post with racist insults, blaming Diogo Jota’s disputed expulsion on Udogie. One of the many controversial moments of a match which also saw a regular goal by Luis Diaz canceled due to a non-existent offside not even sanctioned by the VAR and which, for this reason, even provoked an apology from the English Football Federation to Liverpool.

Errors which, however, in no way can explain or even justify the disgusting comments that appeared on the web, as promptly stigmatized by Tottenham who sided with their player. “We are disgusted by the racist messages directed at Destiny Udogie on social media after Saturday’s match against Liverpool,” reads the message published by the London club. “We will work with the Premier League and, where possible, take action against any individual we can to identify. We’re with you, Destiny.”
