Quebec’s Leylah Annie Fernandez and Eugenie Bouchard to Represent Canada in Billie Jean King Cup Finals

Quebecers Leylah Annie Fernandez and Eugenie Bouchard will represent Canada in the Billie Jean King Cup finals.

Tennis Canada made the announcement on Monday.

The two women will team up with Rebecca Marino, Gabriela Dabrowski and Marina Stakusic. The competition will be presented from November 7 to 12, in Seville, Spain.

The maple leaf has an appointment with the host country on November 8 and with Poland the next day.

“I am very excited to see what this group can accomplish in Seville against the best players in the world for a third consecutive year,” said captain Heidi El Tabakh, in a Tennis Canada press release.

“Recently we have seen great performances from Leylah, Rebecca, Gabriela, Eugenie and Marina. This team is a great blend of experience and leadership, and I am confident we have what it takes to show the world what Canadian women are capable of.”

It’s a return to the Billie Jean King Cup for Bouchard, who hasn’t competed in the competition since 2018. The 232nd player in the world is 13-4 during matches at the annual event.

For his part, Fernandez should be the spearhead of the Canadian team. The one who ranks 60th in the world in singles and 19th in doubles played an essential role during qualifying against Belgium, winning all three of her matches.
