Ostapenko Falls to Samsonova in Quarterfinals of China Tournament

Ostapenko, who is ranked 17th in the WTA and is seeded 13th in the tournament, lost 3-6, 2-6 to neutral athlete Ludmila Samsonova (WTA 22nd).

Ostapenko defeated the German tennis player Eff Lees (WTA 121) in the first round with 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, won the second round without a fight, Czech athlete Linda Noskova (WTA 42) did not go on the court due to injury, but in the round of 16 with 6 -4, 6-2 defeated the fourth racket of the planet Jessica Pegula from the USA.

In the first round, Samsonova defeated the American Alicia Parks (WTA 43rd) 6-4, 7-6 (7:4), in the second round she defeated the 12th-seeded Petra Kvitova (WTA 14th) 6-4, 7-5. of the Czech Republic, but in the round of 16 she beat Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk (WTA 44) 6-4, 6-7 (4:7), 7-5.

This summer, Samsonova reached the final of the WTA 1000 series tournament for the first time in her career, losing to the American Pegula in the competition in Canada. She has lost her last two WTA finals but was unbeaten in four straight title matches before that, winning three trophies last year.

The tournament takes place in China on hard courts.
