For the third year in a row, the Latvian Cross Country Championship will gather Latvian runners in the autumnal atmosphere on the Āraiši Windmill track. Athletes of U14, U16, U18, U20 and adult groups will compete in the Latvian championship as usual, as well as this year, distances for old masters in age groups V35, V55, V70, S30, S50, S70 have been added to the championship. Different distances will be applied to each age group, starting with a 1km run for girls and ending with an 8km long run for men.

The winners of the first three places will qualify for participation in the Baltic team championship in cross country, which will take place in two weeks, on October 28, near our northern neighbors – Yarvakandi.

Several winners and medalists of the previous year’s championship will be on the starting line tomorrow – youth group champion Sibilla Vanadziņa and 5km and 5000m winner Evelīna Krista Sitnika, both of whom competed in the Latvian national team at the World Running Championship in Riga, the titled triathlete and last year’s vice-champion Andrejs Dmitrijevs, multiple Latvian champion and record holder Līga Velvere, multiple junior champion and adult group medalist Nikita Bogdanovs, as well as Lauris Lapsa and Salvis Gruševs, who have won the Top3 national championships.

In the junior competition, the main favorites will be Roberts Glazers and Nikita Bondarev, who have won victories and medals, and the junior medalists Alise Petrova and Indra Mackeviča, both of whom ran in the muddy “Stirnu buka” in Sabile last weekend. In the youth group, in addition to the mentioned Vanadzina, last year’s winner, not only in the youth group, but also in the adult group, Austra Ošiņa, Marta Luīze Pētersone, the 1st place winner in the Latvian and Baltic championship for young women, as well as in the boys’ competition, the adult champion 5km Kristers Kudlis and the medalists Emīls Matias Reinfelds should also be added to the favorites. and Ralph Dzosen.
