OM-OL: “It’s unacceptable, I’m angry,” says Pablo Longoria after the attack on the Lyon buses

Pablo Longoria is not at the end of his surprises at Olympique de Marseille. A little over a month after the stormy meeting between Marseille supporters and the club president, which led to the resignation of coach Marcelino and the temporary withdrawal of management, the Spaniard must face new incidents.

Before the Olympico between Marseillais and Lyonnais, this Sunday evening, thugs attacked the bus of Lyon players, injuring the face of OL coach Fabio Grosso, as well as several buses of Rhone supporters.

Questioned at Prime Video, Pablo Longoria was clear: he condemns the incidents. “This is completely unacceptable,” he insisted. First of all, I personally think that what happened to Grosso is unacceptable, it’s something that should not happen in football. Only unconscious people. Ruining a party, doing that when the stadium is full, with 65,000 people and this person acted like that outside the stadium. I am angry, I am dismayed. What happened has no place in football or in society. »

“A handful of unconscious people”

“Olympique de Marseille deplores the unacceptable incidents which took place this evening around the Orange Vélodrome stadium, against the professional team bus as well as the Olympique Lyonnais supporter buses”, then declared OM in a press release.

“The club wishes a speedy recovery to Lyon coach Fabio Grosso and strongly condemns this violent behavior which has no place in the world of football and in society. Due to a handful of unconscious people, the party planned for this evening was spoiled and deprived 65,000 supporters of attending a football match. The club complies with the decision taken by the Professional Football League and remains at its disposal so that the meeting which was scheduled for this Sunday, October 29 takes place as quickly as possible and under the best possible conditions at the Stade Orange Vélodrome. »

After a long crisis meeting, the decision not to play the match was made. “During the meeting of the crisis unit which took place following the incidents that occurred outside the Vélodrome stadium on the route of its bus, Olympique Lyonnais made known its opposition to taking part in the meeting given the circumstances , specified the Professional Football League in a press release. In consultation with Olympique de Marseille and the public authorities, the OM-OL meeting will therefore not take place. »
