ÖFB-U19 starts with a draw in Wales

Austria’s U19 national team had to make do with a 0-0 draw against Wales in the opening game of qualification for the 2024 European Championship finals in Northern Ireland. At the four-nation tournament in Montenegro, coach Oliver Lederer’s team found good chances early on on Wednesday, and in stoppage time the Austrians once again unsuccessfully laid siege to the Welsh goal. Other opponents are England and hosts Montenegro.

The top two teams and the best team from the 13 third-placed teams will advance to the elite qualifying round in spring 2024. The European Championship will be played with eight nations and will also serve as qualification for the U20 World Cup in 2025.
