Neymar left the pitch in tears after his injury during the international match. Now the diagnosis is there. The Brazilian superstar will be out for a long time and addresses his fans with emotional words.

Brazil’s soccer star Neymar tore his anterior cruciate ligament and the meniscus in his left knee in the World Cup qualifier in Uruguay. This was the result of investigations on Wednesday, as the Brazilian association (CBF) announced. Accordingly, the 31-year-old Neymar has to undergo an operation and will therefore be out of action for his club Al-Hilal in the Saudi Arabian league until further notice.

Shortly after conceding the first goal, Neymar sustained the serious injury before half-time in the 0-2 (0-1) draw against Uruguay on Tuesday evening (local time) when he landed incorrectly with his left leg after a running duel with Uruguay’s Nicolás De La Cruz. As he was driven off the pitch, Neymar hid his face with both hands and later left the stadium in Montevideo on crutches.

Neymar addressed his fans with emotional words after his devastating injury diagnosis. “It’s a very sad moment, the worst in my life,” the Brazilian wrote on the social network Instagram on Thursday. “I know that I am strong, but this time I will need my family and friends even more.” He puts his strength “in God’s hands,” and Neymar thanked them for the “support and affection.”

Month-long break for Neymar?

CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues pledged his support to the Seleção number 10: “Brazilian and world football need Neymar healthy and rested, because football is happier when he is on the pitch,” said Rodrigues. Although the association has not yet announced an exact length of absence, the press in the country of the five-time world champion speculates that Neymar will not play for at least seven months. With such injuries, a period of absence of up to one year is possible.

Brazil was unable to turn the game around after Neymar was substituted. In the second game in a row, the five-time world champion was unsuccessful. Recently it was only enough for a 1-1 draw against Venezuela, and Neymar then had to put up with significant criticism for his performance. The Brazilians fell back to third place in the table after 4 of 18 match days behind the Argentinians and Uruguay, who had no loss points. The top six qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup in America, Canada and Mexico.
