Niners Chemnitz finished the season in third place

With their 79:66 (38:24) win against Würzburg, the Saxons will face promoted team Vechta in the play-off quarter-finals. The first game is expected to take place on May 17th in the Chemnitz town hall.

The Niners Chemnitz basketball players finished the regular season in third place. Coach Rodrigo Pastore’s protégés decided the bronze final against Würzburg Baskets on Sunday with 79:66 (38:24) in their favor. In the play-off quarter-finals, the Saxons are expected to face newly promoted Rasta Vechta in the “Best of Five” series on May 17th in the first duel in front of their home crowd.

Wesley van Beck (17), Aher Uguak (15), Jeff Garrett (13) and Kevin Yebo (12) played the largest role in the Niners’ 26th win of the season. Darius Perry (15), Isaiah Washington (13) and Otis Livingstone II (10) scored the most points for Würzburg.

The hosts laid the foundation for success in the second quarter. The Würzburgers only managed six points against the Niners’ tough defense. The home team converted the 20:22 deficit (15th) into a 38:22 lead (20th) with an 18:0 run and never let this lead get out of their hands. The Saxons had a much better hit rate from the field (48:38 percent) and only lost nine balls. Würzburg gave the ball away 13 times in their own attack.
