Groeneveld, a Dutch rider, had competed in the Criterium Hong Kong Cyclothon the day before: he had withdrawn due to a mechanical problem. In the night between Sunday and Monday the cardiac arrest: “Le circumstances of Mark’s death are currently subject of investigation: We have received preliminary information suggesting that it may have been due to a heart attack“, his team always explains. Which he then adds: “We are working closely with the competent authorities to gather all the information and provide the necessary support to Mark’s family at this painful time.”
