Manzanares Medieval Days Transported Visitors to Another Era

From October 6 to 8, Manzanares has moved to the Middle Ages thanks to a new edition, the tenth, of its Medieval Days. A weekend in which the historic center area has looked great, with thousands of people actively participating in the numerous events organized by the City Council.

“It is ordered to live and enjoy these Medieval Days that we now inaugurate with respect and moderation.” With these words, the commander of Manzanares began the X Historical-Tourist Conference ‘Manzanares Medieval’ on Friday. A few days that began with one of its highlights: the torch procession. It was massive due to the large number of people who formed the procession and also due to the large number of people who did not want to miss that magical atmosphere that is created in the old town only illuminated by the light of the torches.

The interest aroused by the Medieval Days, together with the good weather in Manzanares throughout the weekend, has allowed the influx of public to be constant. Whether in the medieval taverns of the Plaza de la Constitución, in the medieval and Calatravo markets of the Paseos del Río or in the activities held in various parts of the town, many people have always been seen enjoying themselves. And there have been events for all tastes: parades, exhibitions, the ancient music festival ‘Encomienda de Manzanares’, exhibitions, medieval dances, workshops, the national speed painting contest ‘Manzanares and its surroundings’, a children’s library open air, the medieval clothing contest, a wine tasting by the ‘Acicate’ association, bagpipe music, children’s shows, theatrical performances by the groups ‘Vaya Cirio’ and the Popular University, tourist routes, the concert of the Mosquera Celtic Band or the medieval games, which this year became exhibitions of horseback games, archery, rope shooting and medieval combat.

A weekend ‘from another era’

Lean ratatouille for everyone

For Sunday, the program reserved the main event of the X Historical-Tourist Conference ‘Manzanares Medieval’: the election and appointment of the new medieval mayors. It was just after the medieval mass and before the massive popular meal that everyone could enjoy for free at the Parterre del Río, and which was followed by the drawing of lots of blessed products. Mayor Julián Nieva was present there to take stock of this “more than consolidated” festival, of which he highlighted the “spectacular” participation “of the entire population of Manzanares” and which has once again attracted “hundreds of people from nearby towns”.
