Sparta came home with the biggest smile from the big reunion called Sparta-RKC. The Rotterdam team won 2-0 against the Waalwijk team at the castle.

Quite a few hands were shaken prior to Sparta-RKC. Because tonight’s meeting between the two clubs mainly looked like a big reunion.

For example, RKC players Michiel Kramer, Aaron Meijers, Henk Fraser, Geert Arend Roorda and Adil Auassar were back at the old base in Rotterdam for a while and the Spartans Pelle Clement and Saïd Bakari also played against their old club.

The coffee and tea will undoubtedly have been ready for this reunion, but the players did not seem to have really woken up in the first half. Although Sparta started the match well and was able to become dangerous through striker Tobias Lauritsen, things fell quiet after that. The match progressed slowly until halftime.

Although there was a moment of excitement just before the tea break. RKC goalkeeper Jeroen Houwen let a cross from Camil Neghli slip out of his hands. Joshua Kitolano ran off with the ball and appeared to be knocked down, resulting in a penalty.

However, the VAR thought that Kitolano fell too quickly and intervened, so that the penalty was canceled. It caused grumpy in the stands, after a mediocre first act at the celebration of recognition.

A penalty

There was a penalty in the second half, when Yassin Oukili got the ball against his arm on the edge of the penalty area. Lauritsen did not fail from eleven meters: 1-0. This allowed the striker to cheer again, because it was his first goal in seven matches.

The striker showed Sparta the way to a bigger lead after just over an hour, when he released Arno Verschueren with a good pass. The midfielder shot the 2-0 against the ropes.

ANPVerschueren leaves with a red card

Nevertheless, Verschueren could not end the evening with a smile, he had to leave the field moments later after he had made a strong tackle on Zakaria Bakkali. Referee Van der Eijk punished him with a direct red card.

It no longer provided RKC with additional forces. Sparta won again after three matches without a victory. Unlike before the start of the match, RKC coach Henk Fraser now had to shake hands with his former assistant at Sparta, Jeroen Rijsdijk, with a grim face.
