Legendary FCN Player Raphael Schäfer Running for Supervisory Board to Bring Change

He was in the club goal a total of 389 times and played for the FCN for a total of 15 years, with interruptions. The highlight was certainly the cup victory in 2007. Now club legend Raphael Schäfer (44) is aiming for an official career at “his” club and is running for the supervisory board at the next annual general meeting on November 23rd (from 6 p.m.). He now spoke exclusively on club radio about what he would like to change at FCN.

Shepherd about…

….his reputation as an “Ultras candidate”

“I defend myself against that. I made the decision personally. As a professional, I have already argued with the ultras when it came to the matter. I will definitely do that again as a supervisory board member.”

…his long time without football

“I managed our properties together with my wife. That’s why I know how a company works because I own one myself. That’s why I know what a balance sheet looks like.”

…his short time as FCN goalkeeping coordinator

“I was basically not allowed to decide anything. It just wasn’t a life-filled position and was more of a breakfast director type of thing. That’s why I decided it wasn’t for me.”

… his arguments to convince the members

“I think that I am well connected in the sporting field and have a lot of contacts. I have experienced almost everything with the club and, as a former professional, I know why a team played poorly and why this or that is working or not. I want to contribute this expertise.”

…his planned changes

“It depends on how the supervisory board is set up. This isn’t supposed to be a one-man show. We need calm waters, especially in terms of sport. In the medium to long term, the goal must be to be one of the 20 to 25 top clubs in Germany again. I don’t currently see this perspective at 1. FC Nürnberg.”

…a possible spin-off of the professional department

“We are currently simply in too bad a situation to seriously address this issue. That’s why I’m clearly in favor of the continued existence of the eV. We first need a stable foundation, both sportingly and financially. And then you can look into it in more detail.”

…his attitude to the stadium renovation

“It is wonderful when 1. FC Nürnberg manages to build a new stadium. It just shouldn’t happen that the club ends up in financial difficulties, as happened to Alemannia Aachen, for example.”

…what he would have done differently as a supervisory board member

“I definitely wouldn’t have struck Mr. Palikuca. On all other topics it’s hard to say anything because you don’t know what the guidelines were.”
