Julian Nagelsmann admits mistakes at FC Bayern

The new national coach Julian Nagelsmann admitted mistakes at FC Bayern Munich at a press conference. He also sang the praises of his assistant Sandro Wagner.

“I made a few mistakes that I wouldn’t make again,” explained Nagelsmann before his debut as coach of the German national team against the USA on Saturday (9 p.m.).

“There are things that concern me and that I have also analyzed for myself,” added Nagelsmann, without going into the omissions in more detail.

Nevertheless, he drew a positive conclusion about his time with the German record champions, which ended at the end of March this year: “I think I didn’t do everything badly at Bayern.”

Nagelsmann was reportedly replaced by Thomas Tuchel because he was accused of a lack of development internally. His behavior off the pitch didn’t always sit well with those in charge at FCB.

Nagelsmann now has the difficult task of getting the struggling DFB team into shape for the European Championship in their own country in around eight months. He gets help from his new assistant coach Sandro Wagner, who the 36-year-old thinks highly of.

Julian Nagelsmann is already mourning Sandro Wagner

“He is an incredibly hard-working, structured and funny man. He has a great mix of cheeky sayings in all directions, but there is always something behind it. He is very clever and hard-working, has an idea about football. He has a very good one Structure and actually takes care of all the organizational issues for me,” said Nagelsmann about Wagner.

Wagner was “sensationally good,” said Nagelsmann. “It’s actually a shame that he wants to become head coach again at some point, otherwise I could sign him permanently.”

The former Bayern striker, who once played under Nagelsmann at TSG Hoffenheim, had recently led SpVgg Unterhaching to the 3rd league before he was brought to the DFB U20 as assistant coach to Hannes Wagner and finally to the coaching staff promoted to the senior national team.
