The judo department of the DJK Ingolstadt was founded in 1981 by Hermann Kostgeld. Two years later, Jens and Sven Keidel joined and have been in charge of the judoka ever since. On the occasion of this anniversary, the Bavarian Judo Association honored the department with a silver certificate of honor for clubs that have existed for 40 years. Department head Sven Keidel received the highest Bavarian award for his many years of voluntary work: the Golden Badge of Honor with a wreath.
To properly celebrate this anniversary, the club set up 270 square meters of judo mats and invited all department members to train together. The parents of the judo children were also allowed on the mat to get an insight into their offspring’s sport. The training was a complete success “because everyone could feel what judo means on their own bodies,” the DJK report continues. Parents practiced with their children. The adults also tried out judo among themselves, so that all participants had a lot of fun doing it. The children then had fun in the bouncy castle while the celebration continued with a buffet.
200 members exercise five days a week
The DJK’s judo department currently consists of around 200 members who can do sports five days a week. The department provides many trained trainers – especially Jens Keidel. Children aged five and over are looked after, as are adult judoka who practice the sport as fighters, but also from a health perspective. “The large number of black belts is another indication of the successful work of the DJK,” writes the association. “Seals of quality from the Bavarian Judo Association and the German Judo Association also confirm the exemplary work. With Jens and Sven Keidel, the judoka always have their finger on the pulse, as both work in leading positions for the DJB, so that important innovations can be implemented immediately.”
