South Tyrol’s tennis star Jannik Sinner is playing the last Masters 1000 tournament of the season in Paris this week. However, the Sexten native has to be patient for his debut.

After his great triumph in Vienna, there is no respite for Jannik Sinner. Already this week he will be playing at the Masters 1000 tournament in the Bercy district of Paris. The South Tyrolean should actually have started the tournament on Tuesday with a prestigious double match. Alongside old star Stan Wawrinka, the youngster would have had to deal with superstar Novak Djokovic and Miomir Kecmanovic. But nothing comes of it.

Sinner and Wawrinka have withdrawn. The exact reason for this is not clear, but there are indications that the cancellation has primarily to do with Wawrinka. The Swiss had to work a very long night shift and was on the pitch against Dominic Thiem until 2:22 a.m. In the end, the Austrian prevailed.

It starts on Wednesday

For Sinner there could still be a match against Djokovic in Paris, but then in singles. The Pusterer’s programmed semi-final opponent is the 24-time Grand Slam winner from Serbia. Of course, Sinner first has to clear all hurdles, starting with his opening opponent. On Wednesday, the 22-year-old will face the winner of the US derby JJ Wolf against Mackenzie McDonald. This is already a second round match, as Sinner enjoyed a bye at the start.
