Inter Ultras Successfully Welcome Lukaku with Whistles and Inflatable Bananas

The Curva Nord, the northern grandstand of the stand of the Italian big club, where his boiler is located, really stepped on Lukak. “Our plan has been clear since we heard about Lukaku’s departure to Roma. We had the date when he would play for us circled in the calendar,” the mentioned Inter fan described the sequence of events.

Even before the opening whistle, the Nerazzuri ultras distributed forty thousand whistles to the other spectators so that they could all prepare the most unpleasant welcome for Lukaku as soon as he arrived for the warm-up. But the event did not end there. “There were also whistles every time he touched the ball.”

The management of Serie A learned about Curva Nord’s intention even before the match and banned the use of such a huge number of whistles, explaining that then the referee’s whistles would not be clearly heard. But in vain. “We didn’t care, everything went the way we wanted. I think it was successful,” praised the hateful atmosphere of the Inter ultras member.

However, the antipathies were not only manifested in the incessant deafening whistles directed at Lukaku. Some fans even brought inflatable bananas to their seats, which are often seen as a symbol of racially motivated hatred towards black footballers.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi also commented on the 30-year-old forward. “Everyone knows that in the summer I wanted to sign him for the next season as well. He made a different decision, that’s how life goes. And if it was because I sat him in the last Champions League final? I simply made the decision that I thought was best for the team,” explained the Italian coach. As a reminder, Lukaku finally intervened from the bench in the fight for the trophy, in which Inter lost to Manchester City 0:1. And he made himself known mainly by unintentionally stopping the header of then-teammate Federico Dimarco on its way into the net.

But let’s go back to Sunday’s league match. In retrospect, it can be stated that if the Inter fans wanted to throw Lukaku away, they succeeded in doing so. The Belgian did not make his mark, AS Roma lost 0:1, and the blue and black part of Milan had two reasons to be happy.

And Slavia Prague, who will host AS at home in the Europa League group, can also provide her with the third on Thursday, November 9. “I will keep my fingers crossed for Slavia. Her fans should show Lukaku that he is not untouchable,” concluded the Inter fan quoted above.
