More than 500 runners will tour the island from October 13 to 15 and ‘El Bala’ will be honored for his career

More than 500 riders will compete, from October 13 to 15, in the twentieth edition of the Vuelta Cicloturista a Ibiza Campagnolo, which will have a record participation and the presence of former professional cyclists Miguel Indurain, Alberto Contador, Alejandro Valverde and, among others, Oscar Pereiro.
This was announced by the organizers at the official presentation this Tuesday of the Ibizan round next to the Church of Sant Agustí. The edition with the largest and best participation in history also improves the female presence compared to 2022, since nearly 100 women will start this Friday.
It will also be the year with a record number of adapted cyclists, since three teams will be part of this edition. “We set the limits,” said Ricardo Ten, best paracyclist in Spain in 2023.
For Juanjo Planells, director of the organization, Ibiza has managed to create, thanks to sports events such as the Vuelta Cicloturista Campagnolo, a “perfect combination” of nightlife and sport that coexist during and after the summer season.
“We ask for patience from the drivers and neighbors who may be affected by the march this weekend, we understand their position. We are proud. It is the best poster we have ever had. I don’t think many Vueltas can boast of having the guests with whom we count towards our anniversary,” he said.
As Planells has announced, the organization will pay tribute at the start of the first stage, in the port of Ibiza, to the former Movistar Team rider Alejandro Valverde, ‘El Bala’, who has just finished fourth in the Gravel World Championship.

The first stage will consist of 81 kilometers, with a gradient of 1,300 meters, starting from the port of Ibiza and finishing in Sant Antoni de Portmany. The second day, the most competitive and 60 kilometers, is a memorial to Bartolo Planells, creator of this test. It will go through San Rafael with a circuit that will have to be done three laps.
The third and final stage will start from the same square where the Vuelta Ciclotourista a Ibiza Campagnolo was presented this Tuesday, in Sant Agustí, and the peloton will arrive in Sant Antoni after 63 kilometers and 1,155 meters of elevation gain.
The Councilor for Sports of Ibiza, Ana Ferrer, highlighted that this is one of the “most important” and “awaited” events on the island not only as a sporting event but also as a tourist one. “I get goosebumps just thinking that, in the port, with the background image of our city, this Friday cycling and sports legends such as Induráin, Valverde, Contador and Pereiro will meet, as well as one of the best Spanish cyclists, Sandra Alonso,” he declared.
For Marisol Ferrer, Councilor for Culture of Santa Eularia des Riu, this “is not the other Ibiza.” “It is the Ibiza that we have and that we have always defended. The Vuelta allows us all to participate, from professionals, to adapted cycling, to young promises. It doesn’t matter if you are a man or a woman, everyone is welcome here,” he assured.
For his part, the Sports Councilor of Sant Antoni de Portmany, Daniel Sánchez, stressed that Bartolo Planells would be “very proud” of what has been achieved. “We fight for Ibiza to be a sports tourist destination and we are achieving it,” he declared.
Likewise, the Minister of Sports, Youth, Economy and Finance of the Consell d’Eivissa, Salvador Losa, said that the commitment to sporting events was a way of giving recognition to people like Bartolo Planells, who saw the island as the ideal place to do sport.
“We were convinced that it would be a winning bet. We have everyone’s support. Ibiza has a charm and an appeal that, through these organizers who give their all, manages to reach everyone,” declared the councilor.
This twentieth edition will also have a solidarity nature, since the organization will donate one euro to an association for each finisher, although it remains to be determined which one it will be on this occasion. There will also be a sustainable tent on Passeig de Ses Fonts in Sant Antoni de Portmany to learn about the use of plastics.
