Seven days after Guerrero hit, El Sol de México traveled to the area to talk to residents who said they fear for their safety and health.

In contrast to what President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announces, regarding the restoration of electricity by 90 percent and the cessation of thefts, residents of the El Progreso neighborhood denounce that their energy service has not been restored. electricity and assured that they have been victims of looting, so they have organized to protect their homes.

El Sol de México spoke with some inhabitants of the El Progreso neighborhood who carried sticks and had lit bonfires while they kept watch over their homes in the dark.

“Here we have barricades, we have to safeguard our physical integrity, since we have not received security support from the government, so we are protecting ourselves because groups of people have emerged and are breaking into the houses,” said one of them. respondents.

When asked if elements of the National Guard or Armed Forces, or even municipal police, have supported the people, the interviewee said that they felt unprotected and abandoned by the authorities.

“On the coast there are many (military) but nothing on this side. The police are here on the side, they go out to do their patrols outside but not here,” he added.

Regarding the robberies, the man assured that the looting is carried out by inhabitants of neighboring colonies.

“They are people from foreign colonies and they come to carry out their robberies in these parts. They knock on the door saying they are from the CFE or Civil Protection and they take advantage of you opening the door and groups of people enter and steal.

Likewise, they reported that Governor Evelyn Salgado has not yet visited or interviewed them.

Regarding what is most urgent at the moment, another interviewee said that what they require is that they take away the garbage, since it could cause illness, and security.
