HSV misses penalties and only plays a draw in Wiesbaden

Hamburger SV has once again made a mistake against an outsider in the second Bundesliga. The North Germans couldn’t get past a 1-1 draw with newly promoted SV Wehen Wiesbaden and lost further important points in the fight for their longed-for return to the upper house. Shortly before the final whistle, László Bénes hit the crossbar with a penalty (90+8) and missed the chance to win.

Miro Muheim (89th) saved at least one point for the favorite. Aleksandar Vukotić (81′) had given Wehen Wiesbaden the lead and thus turned the game on its head. This was preceded by a mistake by HSV goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes, who blocked a header from Wiesbaden’s captain Marcus Mathisen too short. It was the home team’s first point win after four competitive defeats in a row.

HSV coach Tim Walter trusted exactly the team that took on promotion rivals Düsseldorf after the two defeats at newly promoted Elversberg and Osnabrück. And it started strangely: Guilherme Ramos (10th) almost scored an own goal while trying to clear the ball.

Otherwise the guests were very safe, but were hardly tested. But going forward it was a game of patience. Miro Muheim (27th) narrowly missed the goal, László Bénes (35th) hit the crossbar.

After the break, Ransford Königsdörffer (57′) hit the right corner from close range, but the goal did not count due to offside. Captain Ludovit Reis (63′) pushed the ball past the box on the left. Then Vukotić hit HSV in the heart. Muheim scored his first goal of the season in the final stages with a well-placed long-range shot to make it 1-1. Bénes could have scored the winner from the penalty spot like last week, but failed.

Magdeburg again without a win

1. FC Magdeburg continued its recent negative series. The Saxony-Anhalt team couldn’t get more than a 1-1 draw against Karlsruher SC and have been without a win in four games.

Fabian Schleusener (11th) scored the opening goal for KSC from 40 meters under strange circumstances. Luc Castaignos (49th), who came on as a substitute at the start of the second half, scored the equalizer.

Baden’s negative trend also continued. It was only the second point in the last five games. The KSC was unable to decisively break away from the bottom of the table.

The visitors’ opening goal was preceded by a bad pass from Daniel Heber into the feet of Schleusener. He was able to outwit goalkeeper Dominik Reimann from a long distance.

It was clear that both teams’ respective series of failures had damaged their self-confidence. There were few game ideas in the build-up and the opening deep pass failed to materialise. Both teams benefited more from their opponents’ mistakes.

After the opening goal, Karlsruhe largely limited itself to defense. Nevertheless, Schleusener had a chance to make it 2-0 on a rare counterattack (40′), but was denied by Reimann.

It was noticeable that both teams were pretty tough in the duels. There were five yellow cards in the first half, three for Magdeburg and two for Karlsruhe. Magdeburg made three substitutions at the start of the second 45 minutes, including the winning goalscorer Castaignos, and that should pay off.

Rostock loses away

Meanwhile, FC Hansa Rostock suffered their third away defeat in a row. Rostock lost 0-1 at SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Saturday. An own goal from Damian Roßbach in the 33rd minute made the decision.

Hansa’s performance in Franconia was similar to the games against Kaiserslautern (1:3) and Düsseldorf (1:3). The Rostock team slept through the first half completely and were lucky that Fürth didn’t increase their score early on with a double chance before the break.

After a triple substitution in the second half, the guests increased the pressure. An open and intense game developed. The substitutions of Junior Brumado, Nils Fröling and Christian Kinsombi revived the Rostock offensive. John-Patrick Strauß missed the best chance to equalize in the 70th minute.
