Highlights from the Tokyo Olympics Judo Competition and Upcoming Matches in Abu Dhabi

Miriam Butkereit defeated Fidan Ogel from Turkey and then had to admit defeat in the Wazaari quarterfinals against Madina Taimazova from Russia, third at the Tokyo Olympics. In the consolation round, the 29-year-old DJB fighter lost to Australian champion Aoife Coughlan.

Jano Rübo started the competition in round two with a win against Adil Osmanov from Moldova. In the round of 16, the 20-year-old German runner-up defeated Karim Abdulaev from the United Arab Emirates. The next fight against Daniyar Shamshayev from Kazakhstan, who had already won three Grand Slam medals this year, was lost. In the consolation round, Rübo had to admit defeat to junior vice world champion Jack Yonezuka from the USA.

Dominic Ressel from TSV Kronshagen won two fights in the class up to 81 kg. Agatha Schmidt from JC 66 Bottrop, Dena Pohl from UJKC Potsdam (both up to 63 kg) and Timo Cavelius from PTSV Hof (up to 81 kg) each won one match. Igor Wandtke from the Hannover judo team (up to 73 kg) lost in his opening encounter and also left the competition early.

Four women and six men will be competing in Abu Dhabi on Thursday:

+100 kg: Erik Abramov, UJKC Potsdam – BB

-78 kg: Alina Böhm, JZ Heubach – BW
-78 kg: Anna-Maria Wagner, KJC Ravensburg – BW
+78 kg: Samira Bouizgarne, 1. JC Mönchengladbach – NW
+78 kg: Renée Lucht, HT16 – HH
