Gladbach’s First Victory Marred by Unruly Ultras and Potential Consequences

With the 3-1 win in Bochum, Gladbach finally landed their first three points of the season on the 6th Bundesliga matchday. Despite all the joy about the deserved victory, there were clear words after the game – against some of our own supporters…

Coach Gerardo Seoane (44): “Those were images that we don’t want to see in the stadium. Our fans are actually known for exemplary behavior.”

Finally first victory Chaos and redemption for Gladbach!

Background: The Gladbach Ultras caused game delays several times!

Before the game, despite repeated requests from the stadium announcer, the Ultras refused to remove the fence flags from the escape gates in the block for a long time – referee Felix Brych therefore only whistled the game nine minutes late.

After Florian Neuhaus made it 0-1 (27th), Ultras (who, after taking down all the flags from the fence, had already stopped supporting their own team!) threw smoke pots into the interior. Which caused another interruption because a small fire broke out behind the advertising hoarding, which had to be put out by the fire department.

Behavior that caused a small uprising among the “normal” fans in the guest block. They expressed their anger with chants like “Ultras out!” and “We are Gladbachers and you are not!” really air. Consequence: The Gladbach Ultras left the stadium together before halftime – and thus missed their team’s first win of the season…

Manager Roland Virkus (56) after the game: “That’s not appropriate, we don’t want to see that either. But so far the fans have always supported us tremendously. We now have to clarify the details, we don’t know them yet. Then we have to see how we react.”

Gladbach will probably have to pay the DFB again!

Fact: It’s going to be expensive for Gladbach again – there have already been plenty of penalties from the DFB this year!

► In mid-September, the DFB control committee had already fined Borussia 31,000 euros for unsportsmanlike behavior on the part of its supporters. Because fans ignited 31 pyrotechnic objects at the cup in August in Osnabrück against TuS Bersenbrück.

► In June, the DFB sports court fined Borussia two times totaling 133,750 euros – for numerous Bengal fires in Mainz and in the Rhine derby against Cologne.

► In January, the sports court had already fined Borussia 30,000 euros – because some Borussia supporters had lit around 30 indicators before the last West derby at VfL Bochum on November 8, 2022. Now Bochum again…
