Jacky Munaron was a successful goalkeeper at Standard and Anderlecht. However, things haven’t been easy for him lately. A year ago, his 42-year-old daughter took her own life.
“The most important task for me and my wife Linda now is to take care of our grandson,” says a candid Munaron in Het Nieuwsblad. “His mother is no longer there and a mother is someone who directs the family. Let’s be honest: the mother focuses on the children when the man goes to work, right? My wife is now trying to take over that mother’s role.”
Munaron still remembers October 2, 2022 very well. “My wife and I were at a 50th wedding anniversary party when Linda’s phone suddenly rang several times. It was our sons calling and when Linda answered she started crying profusely. At first I thought her mother had died, until she said: No, it’s Nathalie.”
It was completely unexpected, which made it all even more painful than it already was. “We drove straight there, but we were not allowed to see Nathalie anymore. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. Losing your child like that. Your daughter who you raised, who you put to school, who had a good job and a beautiful family …”
