Footballer Toby Alderweireld’s Home Targeted in Attempted Burglary

Last Wednesday, while facing FC Porto in the Champions League, Toby Alderweireld was the victim of an attempted burglary. Individuals actually tried to break into his new house, even though neither he nor his wife were there.

A babysitter was present at the Antwerp captain’s home, and it was she who alerted the police after hearing suspicious noises, explains Het Laatste Nieuws. Fortunately, the new construction is equipped with a surveillance system, and the cameras recorded images of the burglars.

Alderweireld returned to this traumatic episode at the microphone of our Flemish colleagues, leaving the field this Sunday, after Antwerp’s defeat in Bruges. “It’s scary. For my wife, it’s very difficult,” he confided. Even though the couple was not in the house, the images made his wife uncomfortable: “After all, she is often alone at home,” said Toby Alderweireld. “What frustrates me the most is that I wasn’t there when it happened, and so I couldn’t protect my family,” he lamented, consoling himself with the fact that the investment in the surveillance and security system was worth it.
