Fiorentina Suffers First Defeat of the Season at the Hands of Empoli, Thauvin Scores First Goal for Udinese

Fiorentina conceded its first defeat of the season at home against poorly ranked Empoli (2-0) on Monday at the end of the 9th day of the Italian Championship which also saw Florian Thauvin score his first goal for Udinese. A surprise team at the start of the season, Fiorentina could return to the level of Juventus (3rd, 20 pts) in the event of success against Empoli, 18th before the start of the match with only four points.

But the Viola was physically jostled by its Tuscan neighbor who opened the scoring through Francesco Caputo (21st) and doubled the lead at the end of the match on a counter concluded by Emmanuel Gyasi (81st).
