FETRI AND IRONMAN SPAIN RENEW THEIR COLLABORATION UNTIL 2027 – Technical sports magazine Sport Training

The Spanish Triathlon Federation (FETRI) and IRONMAN Spain are pleased to announce that they have renewed their collaboration agreement for a period of four years, until 2027. The President of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, Mr. José Hidalgo, and the regional director of IRONMAN for Southern Europe, Mr. Agustí Pérez, have signed this agreement that strengthens ties between both sports entities at a global level in the strategic framework and closer collaboration in the competitions in our country.

Marisol Casado, president of World Triathlon; José Hidalgo, president of the Spanish Triathlon Federation; Agustí Pérez, Regional Director South EMEA IRONMAN Spain / Italy / Portugal / Andorra; and Félix Jordán de Urriés, General Director of the Young Sports Foundation of the Higher Sports Council.

José Hidalgo highlighted that the agreement “is quite pioneering in the world of Triathlon. Marisol Casado always remembers that it started more than twenty years ago in Spain when IRONMAN and the world of federated Triathlon lived behind each other, and we decided to try to go hand in hand.” At that time “it was because we do not do something that no one is doing” and the continuity of this agreement represents that “to direct is to understand each other. Instead of putting the emphasis on what separates us, we put our muscle on what unites us to make life easier for triathletes, give them better services and put them at the center of the agreement.” Hidalgo also stated that “in Spain there are two Triathlon brands that stand out above the rest, and they are IRONMAN and FETRI, in the organization of events there are no better brands than ours at the moment in this country.”

Agustí Pérez, Regional Director South EMEA IRONMAN Spain / Italy / Portugal / Andorra, recalled that for him “the Federations have been a condition from the beginning sine qua non to function in our sport. “We have worked tirelessly from all positions in the sport and I believe we have done an excellent job together to present a pioneering agreement for others to follow.” It is about “understanding each other, trying to think and give in, each one from their own space, and going hand in hand for the common good, which is growing in this sport and doing it in the best way.” Pérez believes that “if there is something that Spain is a leader in a Triathlon model, it is because of the work we have done working hard and together, as José Hidalgo said.”

The Regional Director South EMEA IRONMAN Spain / Italy / Portugal / Andorra also had words to recognize “Jorge García, Director of Competitions of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, a very important person to guide the way in these fifteen years of relationship with FETRI” . Pérez indicated that “next year will mark ten years since the first IRONMAN in 2014, and they are ten years of success in which more than 150,000 participants from all over the world have come to Spain to enjoy, with more than eighty percent of participants from outside the country, and in which we have shown both IRONMAN and the FETRI competitions brilliant examples of organization.”

For Marisol Casado, “it is a pride that the Spanish Triathlon Federation is the one that can continue to be held up as a positive example of the negotiation with IRONMAN, which has been so important and so dramatic at times.” The president of World Triathlon celebrated “that a moment like this has arrived, after 16 years at the head of the International Federation, in which all this can be done openly and proposed to the rest of the world as an example to follow” and congratulated José Hidalgo “for having a very clear vision and putting issues like these into practice”

Félix Jordán de Urriés, General Director of the Young Sports Foundation of the Higher Sports Council, celebrated that “two very well-known brands, one in the federative field, and another in the field of mass and more popular sports, join forces to improve jointly. It is an example to follow that does not happen in other sports, we have federated football and professional football that is difficult for them to talk about, in cycling for example the same thing happens, there is a clash between the companies of large professional events and the large structures federative sports, that is why the Triathlon is an example to follow.”
