Euroleague: Bayern’s basketball players celebrate their first away win of the season

The FC Bayern Munich basketball players achieved their first away win of the season. On Tuesday (October 17th, 2023), the Bundesliga team prevailed in the Euroleague with 76:68 (41:42) at Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz. Bayern turned the game around in the final quarter and had their best thrower in Carsen Edwards (14 points).

From the start it was a game of equals. While Bayern repeatedly scored in the zone, Baskonia scored better from distance and was ahead 22:20 after the first quarter. The Munich team hit their threes better in the second half and shone with a 7-0 run shortly before the break, but still had to go into the locker room with a narrow 41:42 deficit.

Baskonia’s late break-in ensures Bayern win

With a few three-pointers, Baskonia pulled away after the break and reached double figures for the first time two minutes before the end of the third quarter. Thanks to good defense, Munich came back and took the lead again for the first time since the middle of the first quarter with four and a half minutes left.

The Bundesliga basketball team gained momentum with a 10-0 run and didn’t give up the game in the final phase. The guests dominated the final quarter with a score of 19:6.

It was a special game for Bayern coach Pablo Laso: The 56-year-old was born in Vitoria-Gasteiz and spent eleven years as a player at Baskonia. The Munich team will remain in Spain in the meantime, as there is another Euroleague away game on Friday with the game in Barcelona.
