El Mariscos Antón Cortegada gains muscle in Tenerife (56-74)

Second victory of the course for Mariscos Antón Cortegada. A joy that came again in Tenerife, like the first, although this time against Clarinos, a team that faced more opposition than the final difference could indicate.

From the first moment the game was a race. The two teams wanted to make rhythm their philosophy and take the game to the highest possible number of possessions. To corroborate this, there are more than 100 field goals made between the two teams to which we must add countless turnovers on both sides.

In this dynamic, Javier Nogueira’s team found in the quality of Anja Fuchs the first striker with which to erode the island’s resistance. Opposite Clara Prieto from Ourense assumed offensive stripes, but the physical advantage of the Vilagarcians allowed her to increase the defensive intensity against a rival who based everything on creating advantages from the perimeter.

The rotations maintained the level at Mariscos Antón Cortegada and this helped the differences to take on a notable aspect. As soon as the second quarter started, and with Stojanovska on the scoring block, the Vilagarcians struck the first blow on the table (9-24). Clarinos was unable to find routes to the basket, let alone second options, against a solid opponent on both sides of the court.

A triple by Lauren Loven culminated a 2-15 run to make the score 11-30, but then the game took a turn. The Vilagarcians confused rhythm with haste and the game became a turbulent river of ball losses in which those who caught the most were Raquel Álvarez.

The good feelings of the first 15 minutes of the game gave way to a lack of offensive control that allowed Clarinos to uncover the rival hoop with baskets from turnovers by the visitors. A time in which 15-5 led to half-time with the feeling of having woken up the rival due to their own mistakes (26-35).

In the third quarter nothing changed. Anarchy had taken over the game and in the disorder the Canary Islands seemed much more comfortable (33-39). At the Mariscos Antón Cortegada he once again defended himself to find the right rhythm. All second options were closed to the rival and, just by minimizing ball losses, the necessary shots appeared to capture the difference in talent between both teams.

Clarinos was not willing to throw in the towel (49-55), but in the last quarter Cortegada’s superiority claimed all the effort made by its rival to hold on to the game. The defense made an appearance again and the final stretch was a red carpet until the second league victory.
