Dream Performance: DJ Moore’s Late Touchdown Leads Bears to Victory over Washington

DJ Moore had a dream first half before stunning the Commanders with a late 56-yard touchdown run Thursday night to lead the Chicago Bears to a 40-20 victory over Washington.

On the day of the death of legendary linebacker Dick Butkus, the Bears (1-4) honored one of the greatest players in their history by signing their first victory in almost a year. The Bears last won on October 24, 2022. They had lost 14 consecutive regular season games since then.

Author of five receptions for 137 yards and two touchdowns in the first half, Moore finished the game with 230 yards on eight catches with three touchdowns. His three majors came on third downs.

Justin Fields had 282 air yards and four touchdown passes. He added 57 rushing yards on 11 carries.

“Justin and I have a lot of trust in each other,” Moore said. We have worked very hard and the results speak for themselves. The offensive unit set the tone and the whole team followed. We have to build on this victory and continue to score a lot of touchdowns. »

The Bears scored the game’s first 17 points, including Moore’s 20- and 11-yard touchdown runs, and held a 27-3 halftime lead. The Commanders (2-3) then scored the first two touchdowns of the second half, but were unable to get within 10 points of the Bears.

Trailing by 10 with 5:14 left, Joey Slye missed a 46-yard field goal that would have brought Washington within a Chicago touchdown. Slye was 2-for-3 and made a 51-yard field goal earlier in the game.

On the next sequence, Moore put the finishing touches by catching a pass from Fields along the sidelines on a third down and two before racing 56 yards into the end zone.

The Bears lost the services of three running backs in this game, so it was fullback Khari Blasingame who finished the game at running back on most plays. Khalil Herbert injured his right ankle while twisting to catch a pass behind him in the third quarter, Roschon Johnson suffered a concussion and Travis Homer injured his hamstring.

Herbert rushed for 76 yards on 10 carries and Blasingame had 26 yards.

The Commanders lost a third straight game, this time due to missed tackles and poor defensive coverages. They once again failed to bring about a turnaround.

Adding in an interception by Sam Howell, there were plenty of reasons for fans gathered at FedEx Field to boo their favorites at halftime.

Howell threw for 388 yards with two touchdowns. He completed 37 of his 51 attempts.

Logan Thomas and Curtis Samuel scored the Commanders’ touchdowns. They amassed 77 and 65 receiving yards, respectively.

Trailing throughout the game, the Commanders ran just 10 times for gains of 29 yards, including 19 yards on four carries from Howell.
