Saarbrücken’s Ludwigsparkstadion is currently not playable due to the rain. The time until the cup clash against FC Bayern on Wednesday is running out.

Only after another site inspection on Tuesday will a decision be made about whether FC Bayern Munich’s DFB Cup game will be played at 1. FC Saarbrücken.

Because of the rain, the holding of the match on Wednesday (8.45 p.m./ARD and Sky) is at great risk. After a turf inspection by the city of Saarbrücken and the Saarland Football Association, the decision was postponed, as the third division club confirmed.

In coordination with the German Football Association, a lawn aeration device will also be used at short notice. The DFB and FC Bayern are also very interested in the game in Saarbrücken taking place as planned, as the Munich team, as Champions League participants, hardly have any gaps in their schedule and there are still international matches coming up this year.

Third division game already canceled

After heavy rain, Saarland’s league game against Dynamo Dresden on Sunday had to be canceled at half-time. Numerous puddles had formed on the lawn in the Ludwigsparkstadion.

After it continued to rain the night after, experts should check whether the water can drain away in time for the second round game. However, further rain is forecast for Tuesday, but not for match day. “The city has not yet made the decision. There will be another inspection of the site tomorrow to see whether the measures are effective,” said FCS spokesman Peter Müller.

The game has long been sold out with 16,000 spectators. According to the club, a move to another location is not possible at such short notice, especially since the neighboring stadiums of FC Homburg (Tuesday against SpVgg Greuther Fürth) and 1. FC Kaiserslautern (Tuesday against 1. FC Köln) are already occupied by cup games.
