Dennis Novak suffered a defeat in the semi-finals of the ATP Challenger in Alicante.
The 30-year-old from Lower Austria put up a tough fight, but ultimately had to admit defeat to Frenchman Hugo Grenier (ATP 213th) after three sets 6:4, 4:6, 3:6.
In the first round of the $118,000 tournament, Novak eliminated second-seeded Slovakian Alex Molcan (ATP 113th) 6:1, 6:3.
In the ATP ranking, the finalist from Bad Waltersdorf has now overtaken Filip Misolic and will be ranked 170th as the fourth best Austrian.
