Demolition as a band-aid for an old wound. Slavia blasted Sheriff Tiraspol 6:0

Slavia footballers also won the second match in the European League group. They crushed Tiraspol 6-0 in Eden in front of nearly 18,000 spectators, followed up on the opening 2-0 win in Geneva over Servette and moved significantly closer to the promotion. Prague remained one goal short of their highest ever cup win.

The Czech vice-champion decided against the Moldovan champion right from the start, Mojmír Chytil and Igoh Ogbu scored in the opening seven minutes, and Munash Garanang scored an own goal before the break. After the change of sides, Ivan Schranz and David Douděra scored and Chytil scored for the second time in the game.

After two rounds without losing a point, Slavia lead the group by a score ahead of AS Roma, at whose stadium they will play in their next match on October 26. Three of the four teams will continue in the spring part of the cups. The first teams from each group will advance to the round of 16, while the second-placed teams will compete in the play-offs for advancement to the same stage with the third-placed clubs in the Champions League. Teams in third place will move to the lower European Conference League. The illustrious rivals partially avenged their elimination in the 2009 Champions League qualifiers when they were eliminated after 0-0 away and 1-1 home draws.

Prague coach Trpišovský put Chytila and Wall in the starting line-up, among others, and the move soon paid off. In the fourth minute, after a nice combination, the Norwegian midfielder put the ball in front of the goal from the side and Chytil opened the scoring from close range. The summer signing from Olomouc scored in the cups for the first time.

In the last three rounds of the Czech league, the team from Prague scored only two goals from penalties, and on Sunday in Teplice they came up empty-handed in a 0:0 draw, but today they had significantly better productivity. In the seventh minute, Ogbu ran onto Masopust’s cross from a free kick from the right side and headed the Slavists’ second attempt between the posts.

The winner of the last eight editions of the Moldovan league, who lost to Plzeň last year in the 3rd preliminary round of the Champions League after two 1:2 defeats, was visibly taken aback and practically did not threaten going forward. The home team clearly controlled the progress and increased the score in the 39th minute. Zafeiris fired into the box and his attempt was deflected past his own goalkeeper Garanang.

The Red and Whites continued their dominant performance even after the change of sides. In the 47th minute, Khtil put the ball through to Douděra and directed his pass into the open goal of Schranz. In the next 11 minutes, the people of Prague prevailed again. After a successful combination, Koval deflected Chytil’s shot and the catching Douděra scored his first goal in the cups.

Even the four substitutions in the 66th minute did not slow down the Slavists. One of the fresh players, Van Buren, did not convert a great chance yet, but in the 71st minute he directed Holeš’s attempt into the net. He caught it and rejoiced at the second goal of the match.

At the time, Prague were one goal away from equaling their record cup win from last July when they crushed St Joseph’s 7-0 at home. In the end, they could have repeated the result, but substitute Ogungbayi’s header in the set-up was knocked down by a defender. Sheriff suffered his heaviest defeat in UEFA competitions.
