Chinese Badminton Teams Face Mixed Results in Hangzhou Asian Games

The badminton events of the Hangzhou Asian Games started on Monday. In the men’s singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles events, two of the Chinese badminton teams lost, while the other three teams advanced as expected.

The Singapore women’s badminton team only arrived in Hangzhou on Sunday (October 1). Only one of my country’s two mixed doubles pairs advanced to the next round. Huang Jiaying and Guo Junliang, who fought on two fronts, lost 0-2 to the Malaysian team ranked ninth in the world, while Chen Weihan and her husband Xu Yongkai won 2-0 and qualified for the top 16.

The first day of the Asian Games badminton event will be held on Monday (2nd) at the Binjiang Gymnasium. Guo Junliang/Huang Jiaying, ranked 90th in the world, faced off against Chen Tangjie/Du Yiwei, ranked ninth in the world, in the first round. In the end, they lost 17-21, 13-21 and missed the chance to advance to the top 16.

Guo Junliang and Huang Jiaying’s main events are men’s doubles and women’s doubles respectively, but they were quite satisfied with their performance in mixed doubles that day.

Guo Junliang told “Lianhe Zaobao”: “I think we did well against the top ten opponents in the world. It was a great experience for us, especially since the two of us were not too focused on the mixed doubles event. At the beginning, there was It was a good start and a solid performance, but then I made a lot of simple mistakes that ruined our rhythm.”

After less than four hours of rest, Guo Junliang participated in the men’s doubles match with his teammate Luo Jianxian. Their opponents were the world’s 15th-ranked Korean combination Choi Sol-gyu/Kim Won-ho, and ultimately lost 14-21, 16-21.

In a double match on one day, Guo Junliang will not save his energy specifically for the match. “I will give my best in every match, no matter whether I feel tired or not.”

Huang Jiaying will compete with Jin Yujia in the women’s doubles on Tuesday (3rd). Regarding being able to participate in the mixed doubles with Guo Junliang on the first day of the competition, she said that she will be able to adapt quickly.

She said: “We didn’t have time to adapt to the main venue when we came to Hangzhou. Now that I know which direction the wind is and what the ball is like, I will adapt faster in tomorrow’s (Tuesday) game.”

In another mixed doubles event, the Chinese pair Xu Yongkai/Chen Weihan, ranked 29th in the world, swept the Nepalese pair Acharya/Nita 21-4, 21-3 in less than 20 minutes and advanced to the top 16. The circle will challenge the powerful Hong Kong combination Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet (No. 20 in the world).

Xu Yongkai: I hope I can win an upset

Xu Yongkai said: “I didn’t complete the warm-up very well because there weren’t many back-takes, but I can adapt to the venue very well. After all, this is our first game.”

Although Xu Yongkai arrived a few days earlier than the women’s team, he did not play in the men’s team competition and only practiced at the main stadium during training.

Regarding the upcoming competition with their opponents, Hui Yongkai/Chen Weihan’s record against the Hong Kong combination is zero wins and one loss. Xu Yongkai said: “We have never beaten them, so we will go all out and not think about winning or losing. Try to relax ourselves and fight for every point, hoping to get an upset.”

Singaporean players who won that day also included men’s singles Cheng Jiahang and men’s doubles Nee Cho Kit/Ng Chung Han. Zheng Jiaheng defeated Macau’s Pei Zizhen 21-9, 21-13 and will face Maldives player Nibal in the top 32.

Ni Zujie/Wu Zhonghan defeated the Cambodian combination Rigli Soo/Wandun Wa 21-11, 21-11 and entered the top 16. Their next opponent was the Nepalese combination Acharya/Katuwal.

The draws for this Asian Games are very interesting. Some are contests between weak teams, such as Nepali players facing Maldives players in the first round, but some are confrontations between strong players. For example, Malaysian player Li Zijia has to compete with Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Long. Competing for the qualification for the second round, after a fierce battle, Li Zijia came back to win 2-1 and reached the top 32 of the men’s singles.

Men’s singles, women’s singles and women’s doubles will be played on Tuesday. my country’s badminton player Luo Jianyou will face Malaysia’s Huang Zhiyong, Yang Jiamin will face Kazakhstan’s Kamila Smagulova, and Jin Yujia/Huang Jiaying’s opponents will be Malaysia’s number one combination. Chen Kangle/Tina.
