Chilean Basketball Teams Advance to Semifinals in Pan American Games

The teams led by Ziomara Morrison and Carlos Lauler defeated Brazil and Mexico and are among the four best. Tomorrow they face the United States and Venezuela, respectively.

The Chilean women’s 3×3 basketball team advanced this Sunday to the semifinals of the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games competition by defeating Brazil, in a very tight match, by 18 to 14.

In the first round of the day played at the Spanish Stadium (Las Condes), the national team easily beat El Salvador 21-4 and thus moved on to the quarterfinals, where they met the Brazilians.

In the semifinals this Monday, the team led by Ziomara Morrison will seek to defeat the powerful United States (4:00 p.m.), which in the quarterfinals got rid of Venezuela by a categorical 21-6.

The other semifinal will be played by Colombia and Puerto Rico.

THE MEN SHINE

In men, meanwhile, Chile beat Argentina 22-17, and qualified first in Group C, and tonight they beat Mexico 21-15 and also achieved a place in the semifinals.

The others classified for that instance are the United States, which beat Uruguay 21-10; Trinidad and Tobago, which surprisingly beat Brazil 20-19, and Venezuela, which beat Puerto Rico 21-18.

The Venezuelans will be the rivals of Team Chile, starting at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow, Monday.
