Santiago de Chile.- «We have been here since eleven in the evening, and some have arrived earlier. We come to welcome our brothers, we carry Cuba in our hearts.” Excited, the members of the Solidarity Coordinator with the Big Island of the Antilles praised the first group of the Caribbean delegation that arrived in this city at two in the morning on October 17, with a temperature of 8 degrees, but this human warmth of friends melted the cold.
Athletes of judo, shooting, boxing, rowing, artistic gymnastics, diving, taekwondo, weightlifting, swimming and baseball received the embrace of those who cheered them and waited to take a photo for their soul with the young athletes.
The voices of «Cuba, Cuba, Cuba, Chile greets you!» they were the culmination of a long journey that had just begun.
In the evening the delegations were officially welcomed and the flags of the 41 nations that will be represented were hoisted.
The Panamerican Villa, located in the municipality of Cerrillos, welcomes around 3,000 people, including athletes, technical officers and heads of missions.
As will happen in the inauguration ceremony, the meeting served to expose Chilean culture and uniqueness, with the presentation of the Folkloric Ballet of Chile (Bafochi), among others. (GM/ Granma Int.)
