The winner of 39 Grand Slam tournaments, including 12 singles titles, wants to combine the two international men’s and women’s competitions, the Billie Jean King Cup and the Davis Cup, in a single World Cup.

“When I say that we are the Women’s Tennis World Cup, people understand it right away, knows that it is country against country, that it is exciting, that it can be played anywhere in the world…”, the 79-year-old former player told the press on Wednesday, before the final of the competition that bears her name (from November 7 to 12 in Seville).

The American hopes to be inspired by the soccer World Cup and its global aura: “I went to the World Cup in Australia and saw the girls there, there were 75,000 people… “It’s very stimulating, the possibilities are endless.”
