BG Hessing Leitershofen/Stadtbergen Leads 2nd Bundesliga Pro B After Opening Win and Prepares for Home Game Against Fraport Skyliners

After the opening win in Fellbach, the basketball players from BG Hessing Leitershofen/Stadtbergen are leaders in the 2nd Bundesliga Pro B. Now the first home game against the Fraport Skyliners awaits on German Unity Day.

The BG Hessing Leitershofen/Stadtbergen started the 2023/2024 season of the 2nd Basketball Bundesliga late on Sunday afternoon with an 88:66 (54:39) victory over the highly promoted newcomer SV Fellbach Flashers. Thanks to the better basket ratio, the Stadtbergers immediately took the lead in the league – even if this is of course a pattern of no value after the first match day. But the BG doesn’t have much time to catch his breath. The first home game against the Fraport Skyliners Juniors Frankfurt is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, German Unity Day, at 4:30 p.m. in the Stadtberger sports hall.

Kangaroos keep their nerve

With the exception of Nicolas Lagerman, who was still injured, the BG were able to muster their best formation and opened the match with an outstanding 14-0 start. After that, the Württemberg Swabians got into the game better and reduced the score to 10:16 against the Bavarian Swabians. But the team around captain Chris Würmseher kept calm. Almost everything went well in attack and in defense they showed great enthusiasm and concentration. A 34:20 lead after the first quarter initially brought calm to the numerous fans in the venerable Stuttgart Gäuäckerhalle. The second quarter was more even. The Kangaroos were able to keep the distance (55:39 at the break).

A similar picture after the page change. The people from Leitershofen impressed with their balance, acted very politely and always kept the Flashers at a distance of between 16 and 22 points. You couldn’t deny the Fellbachers’ commitment, but they couldn’t find a way to counter the guests’ very strong performance. The Kangaroos brought home the win in the last ten minutes without any major problems. And even if the offensive power of the first half could not be maintained in the second half, the team remained extremely focused on defense and thus fulfilled coach Emanuel Richter’s first requirement. He was also very satisfied after the game: “Our zone defense at the beginning took away the opponent’s rhythm. The team then defended with commitment for 40 minutes and also impressed in attack. The regeneration for Tuesday is short, then Frankfurt, a very committed opponent with outstanding long-range shooters, is waiting for us, against whom we of course want to hold our own,” said Richter. “You like to start the season with an away win. Compliments to the team on this success. I believe that the Stadtberg sports hall will be really cooking on Tuesday and we can look forward to a full hut,” said BG general manager Wayne Chicco Pittman, before he was the last to get on the bus, which left with many happy faces on board Stuttgart’s state capital rolled.

BG Hessing Leitershofen: Würmseher (13), Carter (10), Heinrich, Duarte (16), Tumbasevic, Benke (2), Westermeir (15), März (8), Theiss (2), Vanaclocha (11), Hanzalek ( 11).

The game in Fellbach still needs to be ticked off quickly, the full concentration is on the second game and at the same time the home premiere against Frankfurt within just 48 hours. The Skyliners, a traditional German basketball club, had to accept bitter relegation from the BBL last year. The first team now plays in PRO A, the second team in PRO B. Thanks to the dual license regulation, many players can be used in both teams without restrictions. The respective line-up of the team of the 29-year-old coaching talent Sepehr Tarrah is always difficult to calculate in advance. The young players are led by veteran Marco Völler and the 26-year-old American Trevian Bell.

Even more event character is planned

Kangaroos managing director Andreas Moser is looking forward to the home premiere with excitement: “In terms of sport, we really have tough things to do at the start against strong opponents. For the team behind the team, the first home game also means a lot of effort until everything is up and running again. We have tried to further improve the event character of the matches. Advance sales are already going very well, I believe we will have a full hall again.”

Moser recommends that fans arrive early due to the parking situation. The hall is open from 3:15 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in the online shop on the Kangaroos website or directly at the box office at the entrance. (asan)
