For goalkeeper Koen Casteels, nine years at VfL Wolfsburg will end in June 2024 at the latest. The Belgian is looking for a new challenge, which could possibly be in the Bundesliga. According to a media report, FC Bayern is looking into the 31-year-old.

According to the “Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung”, the record champions have focused on Casteels as another option between the posts, as the future of Manuel Neuer is still considered uncertain. The FCB goalkeeper is now scheduled to return to Munich’s goal after the next international break, but there is still a question mark over his performance and fitness level after a break of around ten months. Casteels’ contract with Lower Saxony expires next summer, and the goalkeeper, who is valued at 8 million euros, could be available cheaply in the winter transfer window – provided that VfL, which already has a successor in place from the summer in Kamil Grabara from FC Copenhagen, allows it pull it prematurely.
Casteels moved from Hoffenheim to Wolfsburg in 2015 and has been an absolute constant in the “Wolves” goal in recent years. In total, the seven-time national player played 255 competitive games for the club and kept 89 clean sheets.

Does signing Casteels make sense for FC Bayern? Doubts in TM rumor mill
Neuer has been represented at Bayern this season so far by 35-year-old Sven Ulreich, who recently impressed with a strong performance in the Champions League win in Copenhagen on Tuesday. Initially, the promising Daniel Peretz (23) from Tel Aviv was brought in for the bank in the summer for 5 million euros. Next summer, another goalkeeper talent, Johannes Schenk (20), will return to Säbener Straße from his loan from Münster.
