BALIKPAPAN, Swarakaltim.com – The All Indonesian Badminton Association of Balikpapan City is targeting the overall champion in the East Kalimantan Province Badminton Championship (Kejurprov) in Samarinda City, which will take place from 18 – 22 October. The Balikpapan city badminton team will field 60 badminton athletes who will be sent to Samarinda for the Badminton competition. The release of the athletes was carried out by the Mayor of Balikpapan accompanied by the Head of the Youth, Sports and Tourism Service, Cokorda Ratih, at the Balikpapan city government yard, Tuesday (17/10/2023).
“We pray for the athletes who will compete in the Provincial Championship to win and always uphold sportsmanship. However, winning is not the main thing and is only a requirement, but the main thing in the competition is to form the mentality,” said Balikpapan Mayor Rahmad Masud.
Rahmad continued, athletes who will compete must protect the name of the city of Balikpapan and not tarnish Balikpapan’s name with impolite behavior in competing. Fellow athletes are asked to greet each other so they have lots of friends. “It is hoped that this Provincial Championship can produce something better and athletes can win and enter the national level and enter the national training and can represent Indonesia at the international level. So this will make parents proud.
Meanwhile, Chairman of PBSI Balikpapan – Alwi Al Qadri explained that PBSI sent 60 people to Samarinda. The target at Kejurprov Badminton is the overall champion.
