“Not an easy decision, but I am an athlete who is never satisfied. What is coming is an Olympic year and I have to prepare as best I can. I will leave on the 30th for this new adventure and I am very confident, because I will be followed by a coach who has brought many medals home and with an important working group. I can’t wait.” Marcell Jacobs said this on the sidelines of the fourth meeting of the Fiamme Oro at the CONI Hall of Honour, commenting on his imminent departure for America after changing coach. “After the Games we brought home some medals, but I wanted to do better and the change gives me a lot of confidence”, he added.
While to those who asked him if he still feels like the man to beat he replied: “What gives me confidence is that no one has run less than 9.80 in these two world championships. So it means that if I’m well I’m competitive. I would like to defend both the title of the Europeans in Rome than the gold in Paris”.
On the time left to prepare for the Olympics, Jacobs then concluded: “It seems like a lot of days but they are very few, the preparation will be new and I will change everything, but I can’t wait to embark on this new adventure.”
