It was the early hours of the afternoon when a call reached the Carabinieri Command Station in Irsina, notifying the military that a suspicious car with a person inside was parked near a commercial business.
Once on site, the Carabinieri identified a girl who was inside the car on the passenger seat, in an apparent state of agitation, and reported that she had been left alone by her boyfriend, stating that she was unaware where he had gone.
During the Carabinieri’s investigations on the spot, some curious citizens looked out from their balconies, reporting the presence of a young, non-local boy who was standing in a garden near the entrance to an adjacent condominium. Immediately reached by the military, he was identified, and in his vicinity a baseball hat was found with banknotes worth approximately one thousand euros inside and gold jewelry with a total value of approximately two thousand euros. From in-depth investigations, the goods were found to belong to an elderly woman from Irsi who had been induced to deliver to the boy a few moments earlier, following a telephone indication from a self-styled nephew.
The 20-year-old was then arrested and transferred to the Matera prison, on the orders of the ordinary general manager of the City of Sassi. The investigations carried out are, however, in the preliminary investigation phase, and require subsequent procedural verification in the cross-examination with the defence.
