After the forest and hiking festival, it’s time for the very last event of the season of the Ark of Nature festivities, in Le Mans (Sarthe).

This Sunday, October 29, 2023, the 26th edition of the apple and chestnut festival will take place.

700 kilos of apples harvested

The year’s collection in the orchards of the Ark of Nature bore fruit with around 700 kilos of apples picked. The apple juices made with it will be enjoyed during the party.

Reinettes du Mans, Bouets de Bonnétable and apples of Paradis will be to savor. The “Maine-Perche apple crunchers” will give their advice for identifying apples or for grafting apple and pear trees. The Brotherhood of Apple Chausson of Saint-Calais will present and sell this culinary specialty.

Agricultural press and apple juice competition

A large mechanical cider press, which will crush 3 tonnes of apples, will be admired in action. Mini-presses will allow children to participate. Apples will also be crushed via a mechanism operated by a Percheron horse.

As part of the event, the 14th apple juice competition will be organized. One of the six producers present will be rewarded. Apple juice will be king, but not only that: pear juice, cider, cider vinegar and other liqueurs will be to be tasted.

A la Guillaume Tell

Activities are on the program, starting with an introduction to archery with the Nature Archers Club. Likewise, demonstrations, during which it will be necessary to aim at an apple-shaped target with arrows or darts, will be provided by the Le Mans Sarbacane association.

As for entertainment, the party will be punctuated by the musical duo Mi-Gratteurs (3 p.m., 4 p.m., 5 p.m.) and the show “Pom, pom, pom” by the Compagnies Contes à l’oreille (2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m.).

Sunday October 29 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Maison de la Prairie de l’Arche de la Nature, in Le Mans. Information on 02 43 47 40 00, Monday to Friday.
